Devils Tower II

Early Wednesday morning, I walked the 1.4 mile Tower Trail that goes around the base of Devils Tower. The Tower looks big from the Belle Fourche River Campground, but the scale of the tower really sinks in when you are at its base. This thing is enormous!

It should surprise me that trees and bushes have been able to grow in the cracks of the tower, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that. Some of the trees are quite large.

The climber in the photo camped in the site next to mine. I was able to email her the photo!

While walking around Devils Tower, I saw several rabbits and even came across a grazing buck. Guess it helped that I was walking around 6:00 am local time (my body is still on Eastern time).

There were even chip monks enjoying breakfast.

It’s hard to tell from these pictures just how big the boulders are. There are huge. All in all, a very worthwhile hike

Back at campground, it wasn’t surprising to see more rabbits. Just wasn’t expecting to see one up on a short wall!

Jedi rabbit mind tricks…

I’m not the rabbit you’re looking for…
