Devil’s Punchbowl Arch, Rocky Creek & Boiler Bay

On Monday, I ran errands in Corvallis, OR to renew Sammy’s seizure RX, getting an overdue oil change, and stocking up on Diet Pepsi at Walmart. To reward Sammy for all the driving, I took him to Mary’s River Park for a walk and then wrote Blog31.

On Tuesday, we got back to exploring the Oregon Coast. First stop was Devil’s Punchbowl Arch in the city of Otter Rock. I thought there would be more room for viewing Devil’s Punchbowl Arch, but you look down on it from a cliff at the edge of the viewpoint.

Entrance to Devil’s Punchbowl is down there…

We lucked out and were there for low tide. I’d heard you can enter the bowl during low tide. I scrambled to find the beach access. In short order, we were on the beach after descending an iffy/eroded beach access walk (didn’t think to photograph that.).

Getting closer to the entrance!

It doesn’t take long to walk to Devil’s Punchbowl Arch, but the footing is very slippery and I had one wipeout.

Inside the punchbowl is very neat. Other people were going further into the bowl, but the rocks on the left looked very slick and I didn’t think I could navigate them while having Sammy on the leash as well. It’s hard to keep your footing while your dog is also pulling on the leash.

I liked the patterns on the rocks in the foreground

After the fun time at Devil’s Punchbowl Arch, we headed up to Outlook Observatory. From there we had a nice view of Devil’s Punchbowl off to the south. Outlook Observatory also has a gift shop where I was hoping to get an Oregon Highway 101 sticker for the van, but for some reason the shop is closed on Monday and Tuesdays…

The next stop, Rocky Creek, was by chance. I don’t remember seeing it on the iPhone maps app and I just took the turn off when I saw the sign.

The final stop of the day was Boiler Bay. I just can’t get over how diverse and amazing the Oregon coast is…
