When I got back to Sandbeach Campground, I started looking at the map for new places to explore. I noticed that there’s a beach to the north of Oceanside called Short Beach. When I Googled Short Beach, the images looked promising!
(In an earlier blog, I listed a beach called Short Beach. I learned that beach is actually named Short Sand Beach. Those blogs has been updated.)
Turns out, Short Beach is like a small version of Ruby Beach in Washington. A very nice wood and gravel staircase takes you down to Short Beach. Then you walk across an area of cobblestones to get to the sand on the beach.

The south end of Short Beach is dominated by a steep cliff and a large rock formation with trees growing on top.

Part way down the beach, heading north, there is a nice two-tier waterfall.

The north end of Short Beach has a rock field and a few larger rock formations.

On Monday morning, the tide was coming in when I was in the rock field. An earlier wave trapped me and soaked my socks (the shoes are rubber, so they didn’t matter). I tried hopping across a couple rocks to keep my socks from getting soaked again. Of course, I slipped and fell; jamming a joint in my left middle finger and getting all of my clothes wet. At least Sam’s poop bag didn’t break when my hand landed on it…
One nice thing about having a kitchen on wheels, is that I can stop anywhere for a meal. After putting on dry clothes, I stopped on the road above Oceanside Beach and made a sandwich for lunch. Nothing helps a bruised ego like a lunch with a nice view.
