We had a relatively easy drive from Page Springs Campground to Sunset Campground (in Fremont Winema National Forest) today. The only challenging part, was a mental challenge because Apple Maps took us on a 50 mile stretch of gravel road. I’m still not comfortable driving on gravel roads because everything in the van rattles so much.
People at Page Springs Campground said that going faster on the gravel road helps to smooth out the ride. So instead of creeping along at 14 mph like I usually do, I got up to 54 mph on the smoother sections of the gravel road. For the most part, it does seem like going faster on the gravel road does help. Though now, everything in the van has a fine coating of dust. I’ve already dusted the dashboard and kitchenette.
And while I was on the gravel road, I was really in the middle of nowhere! I saw two parked vehicles along the way and passed two graters smoothing out the gravel. Besides that, we were by ourselves the whole way. I was very happy to get back to the paved roads!
But we made it to Klamath Fall okay and we went grocery shopping. My refrigerator was getting pretty empty! I just used my sun shower to clean up, which feels nice. I could detect my own aroma, so I knew I needed a shower!
So far, Sunset Campground looks great. Just a small change in scenery compared to Page Springs:
This campground is definitely more my style!
