Been having a nice time on the Oregon Coast. So far, the lighting conditions have not been ideal at sunrise or sunset. Part of that is my fault – not paying close enough attention to the compass to realize the setting sun will only light up the right side of the rock formations… So Harris Beach may be better suited for sunrise pictures, but it’s been cloudy in the mornings so far.
Here’s one sunset image I took on Thursday night. I didn’t want to do a silhouette image, but that’s pretty much all I had to work with…
It was cloudy first thing Friday morning, so I scouted more of the beach that I did on Thursday because the tide was lower. And since I wasn’t as focused on taking pictures, I started to notice other things. Like, hey, those are sea lions out on some of the rock formations. And lots of the rocks on shore has star fish and other sea life hanging on to them.
I walked about 2 miles on the beach Friday morning, carrying my heavy tripod, sometimes in the soft sand. So I was getting pretty tired. I decided to switch gears and check out some of the scenic overlooks along highway 101. The term overlook is deceiving on the Oregon coast. Most of the time it means there’s a parking area, but you still have to hike to get to the overlook.
So, after checking out 3 overlooks and getting my steps to over 5.5 miles, I was ready to head back to the RV park and rest. But the scenery out here is insanely pretty. Some of the trails to the overlooks are like entering a fantasy world.
I was so tired, I slept in a little on Saturday morning, and just scouted some more overlooks before lunch. We only hided 3.75 miles this morning, but even Sam is resting outside of the van. I found a spot on Lone Ranch Beach that I think will work well at sunset. I’ll try that tonight!
