After driving up to the Newport area and doing errands on Tuesday and Wednesday, we got back to doing some exploring.
The first location was Seal Rock, about 13 miles south of Newport. I only went to Seal Rock because it was close by, but I was definitely impress with the beach and rock formations.
Seal Rock has another unique and beautiful path leading to the beach.
I explored the beach to the south on Seal Rock, but the beach to the north looks worth exploring as well.
Part way down the beach, I noticed some seals resting on one of the rocks.
And a couple pictures looking towards the north end of the beach.
After, Seal Rock, we headed to the north end of Newport to visit Yaquina Head. I wanted to see Yaquina Head based on a small picture that is on a Oregon Islands flyer. It’s amazing how unique each of these locations are.
We first headed to the tidal pools, which was a bit pointless since it was high tide. But it was still a beautiful location.
We came back on Friday morning for low tide and I couldn’t believe how much rock was exposed. I was expecting a scattering of rocks and sand, but it was pretty much just solid rocks.
After that, we headed over to Quarry Cove. Another interesting spot, though it might be better to see when the tide is higher. I’m doing Yaquina Head all backwards. Oh well, still a nice location…
