My experience at Sol Duc campground really put a damper on my travel enthusiasm. One surprise on this adventure has been how hard it can be at times to make campground reservations. I guess it’s good that Americans are getting out and enjoying nature, but it sure can make planning difficult.
I’ve had four days to rest at Circle Creak RV Resort in Seaside, OR and I’m feeling more optimistic. I really like this area. I’m not thrilled with Seaside beach, but having such easy access to Cannon Beach, Arcadia Beach, Hug Point and Arch Cape is great.
On Wednesday, we went back to Short Sand Beach in Oswald West State Park. We walked the beach and explored more of the trails that are between the parking area and the beach. Very pretty old growth trees.
This morning (Friday, Sept 11), we went back to Arch Cape. Another pretty and interesting location. I was surprised how much the tide pools has shifted over the last couple weeks. It was harder getting around the tide pools while keeping my socks dry. I eventually failed and the socks are now drying in the sun.
Tomorrow, we are going back to Sandbeach Campground near Tillamook because I can stay there for half the price I’m paying at Circle Creek, but with no showers or laundry facilities.
I may need to change my focus to more mundane aspects of traveling in the van. See if I enjoy staying at free or less expensive sites for a few days and relocating. I won’t always be visiting exciting places like National Parks.
