A couple of days ago, while searching for campgrounds in Oregon, I stumbled across an article about the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway – a 172 mile scenic route through southern Oregon. That sounded interesting, but I didn’t know if I wanted to commit to doing the entire route. The article did mention two waterfalls in particular and the 113-foot Toketee waterfall caught my interest.
It was a two hour drive from Sunset Campground to Toketee waterfall in the Umpqua National Forest. It was a mostly easy quarter mile hike to the waterfall. The challenging part was the 200 steps (up and down) along the trail to the viewing platform.
Lots of the trees and boulders are covered in moss, which is something I really like. So that make the trail fun for me. Sam didn’t comment on the mossy, but he did sniff around a lot. He also got a lot of attention at the viewing platform.
The two tier waterfall was very cool. The viewing platform was very small, so you couldn’t get a different angle on the waterfall. Some people have hiked down to the falls, which isn’t recommended.
